The Future of Workplace Design

Imagine a big open space, rows and rows of cubicles and little or no natural light. The days of the dreary office environment are quickly becoming a thing of the past. There is a global movement among corporations and their designers towards a more creative and innovative workspace that promote workers to be happier, healthier and more productive. It might seem counterproductive at first glance, but one major trend in commercial office design is the shift to the smaller space. With rent increasing in most places, companies are looking for better location and that usually comes at a higher cost. Other factors include the use of technology [...]

Making Wall Coverings Sustainable

Sustainability is the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources thus supporting a long-term ecological balance. At Vitrulan USA, we have created our wall covering systems to make a huge positive impact to those who use them without having a negative impact on the environment. Impact resistance, surface reinforcement and an attractive, high quality appearance are just a few of the demanding requirements. Given the rise of superbugs like MRSA and C Diff in hospitals, it’s more important than ever to be able to scrub and decontaminate any wallcovering, without causing surface damage. By far the strongest proven solution to these ever-increasing demands on wallcoverings lies in the use of Vitrulan wallcovering systems, made of 100 percent finely spun glass yarn. While new to American hospitals, this product has been meeting the stringent demands of hospitals in Europe for the [...]

Walls Reinvented At Ellis Residential & Rehab Center

Schenectady, New York’s Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center is all about change, even on the walls. At a medical center where the focus is on serving the community and reinventing healthcare – one patient at a time, the newly renovated nursing home facility has been no exception to the rule. When the 82-bed residential and rehabilitation center moved from Ellis Hospital to the Ellis Health Center, the 1970s building was taken down to the studs. Once the walls went back up, a new, high-performance wallcovering system from Vitrulan was put in place. While the conversion of the building to a nursing home facility was a major undertaking, [...]
